The Program
The Assembly Saxophone Quartet brings a bold and colorful program that bridges classical tradition, jazz-infused flair, and brand-new sounds. The evening opens with Dvořák’s beloved “American” Quartet in F major, Op. 96, reimagined through the rich sonorities of the saxophone, followed by Piazzolla’s sultry Street Tango and Cole Porter’s timeless I’ve Got You Under My Skin, showcasing the ensemble’s versatility and style.
Adding to the excitement, the program features newly commissioned works written especially for the quartet by an extraordinary lineup of composers: Avner Dorman, Grace Baugher-Dunlap, Chris Evan Hass, Frank Ticheli, Edith Piaf, and Andrew David Perkins. From beloved classics to fresh premieres, this concert promises a vibrant journey through the expressive world of the saxophone.
Assembly Saxophone Quartet
The Assembly Quartet is a professional chamber music ensemble whose mission is to promote music education and expand the enjoyment of music for people of all ages. Originally formed in 2003 by graduate students at the University of South Carolina, the Quartet’s principal objective was, and remains, to engage with audiences in public schools and communities, working with students and audiences that often have limited experience with chamber music or with the music of our time.
