The Program
Join us for Cellobration, a concert that puts the cello in the spotlight with three unforgettable works. The evening begins with Schubert’s glorious Cello Quintet in C major, performed by the Artisan String Quartet with guest cellist Anna Park, assistant principal of the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Praised as one of the greatest chamber works ever written, this Quintet is filled with warmth, elegance, and one of the most beautiful slow movements in all of classical music.
The program continues with Gian Carlo Menotti’s Suite for Two Cellos and Piano, featuring Rick Rowley at the piano alongside Douglas Harvey and Anna Park. This rarely heard gem sparkles with rhythmic drive and lyrical charm, bringing out the playful as well as the passionate voices of the cello. The evening closes with David Popper’s Requiem for Three Cellos and Piano, performed by Douglas Harvey, Anna Park, Frank Jenkins, and Rick Rowley—a hauntingly gorgeous work that blends three rich cello voices into music of deep emotion and soaring beauty.
